Pilot visit to Bosnia

Last week, the SCMIN-CRM coordination team had the opportunity to visit one of the five pilot operations of the SCIMIN-CRM project, an underground mine in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This technical visit, led by César Luaces, the project director, allowed the ANEFA team involved in its management to gain first-hand insight into the challenges and opportunities associated with this mining operation. During the tour, the mine management shared details about their operational approach and the unique characteristics of working with an extremely complex rock massif. The visit was essential for better understanding the local issues and evaluating how the project’s proposed solutions can be effectively integrated.

Exploring an underground mine is always a special experience; this visit was no exception. Bauxite mining at this site stands out for its high technical complexity: the mineral deposits are scattered and lack spatial continuity, requiring a meticulous approach to locate and extract them. Additionally, the recent incorporation of ornamental rock exploitation represents a significant step toward better resource utilization. These types of encounters not only bring us closer to the technical challenges of mining operations and strengthen personal relationships with local teams, fostering smoother collaboration in the development of the project.
