SCIMIN-CRM: Global meeting 2025

The Spanish Geological and Mining Institute (IGME) hosted the consortium meeting of the SCIMIN-CRM project (Sustainable & Circular Production of Mineral Critical Raw Materials), led by the National Association of Aggregates Manufacturers (ANEFA) and funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe program (101177746). This meeting served to review the first year of the project’s implementation, during which the progress of the different work packages was presented.

Throughout the day, the consortium partners shared the achievements reached and future lines of work focused on the recovery and valorization of previously discarded mining materials, with the aim of promoting a more sustainable, circular, and efficient production of mineral raw materials.

The meeting included the remote intervention of Susana Xara, Project Officer at European Commission, who highlighted the consortium’s strong commitment and the relevance of the project within European policies on sustainability and strategic autonomy in raw materials.

SCIMIN-CRM aims to achieve an ambitious set of objectives, ranging from promoting the circular economy and recovering critical and non-critical raw materials to minimizing environmental impacts, reducing hazardous substances in industrial processes, and improving the social acceptance of mining activities. Moreover, the project aims to apply artificial intelligence to production systems, making a decisive contribution to a more innovative, responsible, and competitive sector.

Within the framework of SCIMIN-CRM, ANEFA reaffirms its leadership in promoting research, development, and innovation applied to the aggregates sector, strengthening its active role in addressing the major challenges of Europe’s ecological transition. The consortium will meet again in one year to continue advancing toward a more sustainable and resilient mining industry.
