The European Commission has started a new phase of the Hydrogen Mechanism under the EU Energy and Raw Materials Platform. This phase allows European buyers to look at supply offers for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives, and to express their interest. The phase runs until 20 March 2026.

The Hydrogen Mechanism connects potential buyers in Europe with suppliers of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen and related products, such as ammonia, methanol, eMethane, and electro-sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF). More than 260 supply projects were submitted between 12 November 2025 and 2 January 2026.

The Commission will give more details about this phase at an online webinar on 27 January.

Hydrogen is important for reducing carbon emissions in industry and for strengthening Europe’s competitiveness, security of supply, and diversification of energy sources.

Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen said this mechanism is a new and innovative tool to help develop the hydrogen market. He encouraged European buyers to use this opportunity to connect with suppliers.

The mechanism was created under Regulation EU/2024/1789 and is the first tool launched within the EU Energy and Raw Materials Platform.
