The partners of the European project SCIMIN-CRM gathered in Oviedo, Spain, on 16–17 June for a review meeting aimed at assessing the progress achieved so far and coordinating the next phases of the project. Hosted by the University of Oviedo, the meeting brought together representatives from industry, academia, research organisations, and public authorities involved in the initiative.
Throughout the meeting, consortium members presented updates on the different work packages, covering project management, advanced recovery systems for raw materials, sustainability assessment, digital solutions for data management, market replication strategies, and the implementation of pilot activities in Spain, Sweden, Austria, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The discussions provided an opportunity to evaluate achievements, address challenges, and strengthen collaboration across the consortium.
Funded by the European Union, SCIMIN-CRM is developing innovative approaches to improve the recovery and sustainable use of Critical Raw Materials (CRMs), supporting a more resilient and resource-efficient European value chain. The review meeting reaffirmed the partners’ commitment to delivering practical solutions that contribute to Europe’s strategic autonomy and sustainability objectives.
The second day of the meeting focused on Minersa’s facilities, located in Asturias and selected as one of the project’s pilot sites. During the visit, the entire consortium, accompanied by the European Commission Project Officer, Susana Xará, and the project reviewer, Fernando Castro, had the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the activities of this company, which specializes in the extraction and processing of fluorspar.
